abode vs mymind

mymind and abode share a belief: save everything, organise nothing, let search do the work. mymind is the more mature, polished app and deliberately private. abode is open source, runs on your own server if you want, and lets you share what you've collected.

the short answer

choose mymind if you want the most polished private vault, with native apps and nothing public.

choose abode if you want the same no-folders idea, open source and self-hostable, with public rooms to share.

where mymind shines

  • the most polished “save anything, organise nothing” experience, with strong image AI — search by object, colour or text in an image, and find similar vibes
  • native apps on iOS, android and macOS
  • a strict privacy stance in writing: no ads, no training on your data, no social layer

where abode fits better

  • you want the code to be open, and the option to run it on your own server
  • you want to share some of what you save — a public profile and public rooms, not links that expire in a day
  • you want a free option with no card limit — self-hosted abode has none

questions

does abode have mac or mobile apps?
not native ones yet. abode runs in the browser and installs as an app on your phone or desktop.
can I bring my mymind library to abode?
not yet — a mymind importer is next on the roadmap. for now, you save things one by one.
is abode free?
self-hosting is free, forever — the code is AGPL-3.0 on github. the hosted version is in invite-only early access: join the waitlist to get in.
can I run abode myself?
yes. it needs Postgres and Supabase; everything else, like AI descriptions and image search, lights up when you add its key. the self-hosting docs are still evolving.
is what I save private?
yes, unless you choose otherwise: things are private until you put them in a public room or share them, and public pages stay out of search engines unless you opt in.
